understanding the language of freebies

Have you ever been in a situation where you simply made a purchase because you are really after of the freebie?

We feel you, because we've been there ourselves!

The shopping bug in all of us just gets all hot and excited at the sight of a "Discount" or "Sale" sign.

We've hoarded perfumes just so we can grab the free bags. We ended up shopping for a couple more of items than we really needed just so we could qualify for discounted pricing.

From food chains to high-end boutiques, freebies have long been used by marketing strategists to create strong, powerful messages that lead you to make a purchase. If freebies could talk, they're probably going to say:

  • That the best deals do not go solo: "Buy X and get me free!"
  • That good things don't last forever: "You'll miss half of your life if you don't act NOW."
  • That you'll save more: "Add me to the original cost, and you have a steal." 

... But this is only one side of the story. Apart from sending a strong call to action, freebies also signify  other things:

  • A seller's gratitude and appreciation: "Thank you! You are a valued customer."
  • A gentle reminder to come back soon: "We hope to see you again."
  • A vendor's free advice: "This item looks absolutely great with your latest purchase from us."

Use your favorite best-fitting dress as a guide. Lay the dress flat on your bed and use a ruler or tape measure to find the width of your shoulder, chest, waistline and hips. The polo dresses tend to be on the wide side to allow freedom of movement.
